In memory of Rey and Gimmer

My dad was on the board for many years, my mom supported the school in many ways, from putting together programs and brochures, to taking pictures of events, to helping organize activities as much as she was able. They loved the community and mission of Tandem. Meaningful educational spaces that elevate and inspire are hard to come by, especially when some of what they provide is not measured in dollars and cents, but in feelings and inspiration, and a sense of community. That’s what Tandem gave me and I hope it continues to provide for others. Especially today when so many things are measured in standardized tests and graphs and charts, portfolios of experience are particularly hard to calculate, and these spaces are in danger of disappearing. I wish I had more to give.

I still cherish the time I spent teaching English, German, and drama and overseeing the college counseling at Tandem from 1987-1997. May the school continue to thrive!

I love Tandem because of the positive impact they have on kids and the confidence they instill. I also appreciate how they empower the kids to become leaders and give back.
