In memory of Rey and Gimmer
My dad was on the board for many years, my mom supported the school in many ways, from putting together programs and brochures, to taking pictures of events, to helping organize activities as much as she was able. They loved the community and mission of Tandem. Meaningful educational spaces that elevate and inspire are hard to come by, especially when some of what they provide is not measured in dollars and cents, but in feelings and inspiration, and a sense of community. That’s what Tandem gave me and I hope it continues to provide for others. Especially today when so many things are measured in standardized tests and graphs and charts, portfolios of experience are particularly hard to calculate, and these spaces are in danger of disappearing. I wish I had more to give.

Based on effective faculty and staff modeling, the students explicitly maintain a culture of mutual support; older students see themselves as positive mentors for younger students. Differences are respected and celebrated as important. No one “falls through the cracks.” My child was brilliantly prepared for success at UVA. She’s at the UVA Law School now! Thank you for everything you have done for her and our family.
